Halloween is my favorite time of year and the best season concoct new cocktails. I’ll find any reason to sip on tequila, and this flame-hued margarita is the perfect excuse–Hints of blackberry and lime with a fiery twist: a hefty helping of jalapeño pepper. And the best part? A smoky, salty finish from the black lava salted rim!
Ingredients
• Blackberries
• Raw jalapeño
• 2 oz lime juice (fresh or bottled)
• 4 oz tequila (i prefer Milagro, but any brand will do)
• 2 oz creme de cassis
• 1 oz triple Sec
• 1 oz grenadine
• Black lava salt
• Volcanic rock garnish (blackberry on a skewer)
• Dry ice (optional)
Rim the your glass with black lava salt. Set aside. Combine several blackberries and half of the jalapeño (thinly sliced) in a cocktail shaker or glass. Muddle the fresh ingredients with a muddler (or the end any blunt end of a kitchen utensil). Once the berries and pepper are combined, add liquid ingredients and mix well. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to remove the berry seeds. Pour over crushed ice, add a skewered blackberry garnish and enjoy!
Jalapeños give this margarita a spicy kick. Want to dial up the heat? Use a whole pepper for a devilishly delicious burn.
Where there’s smoke, there’s a fiery margarita! Drop in some chunks of dry ice to really drive the point home.
